Gratitude is defined as the quality of being thankful, the readiness to show appreciation  and to return kindness, according to Google. This word was on my heart and I wanted to share with you all what gratitude means for me and I hope this blesses you as well. Gratitude is often lost within the materialistic culture we live in. We are often caught in trying to have the best things in life without thinking of why we feel the need to have them. I am guilty of doing this, but lately I’ve decided to limit how much I spend. In addition, I try to dedicate time to helping others whether in a small or big way. There’s nothing wrong with having nice things but when it starts to consume you, that’s a problem.

One thing that I have done to develop an attitude of gratitude is to write down every night all that I am grateful for. When we truly look around us we realize that we are not lucky but beyond blessed. There will always be someone out there that has more than we do and someone who has less than we do. Let’s remember that life is not a competition but a gift. There is so much beauty in the little things of life that cannot be bought such as sunrises, sunsets and long walks in the park with loved ones.

Another way to show gratitude is to spend money to benefit others rather than ourselves. Any small act of kindness can really make a difference in someone else’s life. Be that person who lends a helping had, who listens to others without worldly judgement, who loves others without limits and most importantly represents a light for others. We have the ability to make the world a better place through random acts of kindness.

Let’s choose today to be grateful for what we do have and to be a light for someone else.  Let’s choose to live intentional and authentic. It’s okay to be real with ourselves and with others. In a culture that demands perfection, superficiality and encourages a materialistic mindset, let’s choose to focus on what truly matters, being there for one another.

What are some ways you guys remain grateful? What are you guys grateful for? What are some ways you guys help others? Let me know in the comments♥

-Stay Blessed

  1. For me, I feel the best way to show gratitude is to help those in need. Nothing is more pure and beautiful than seeing others rise because of the love you showered on them…

  2. I show gratitude by giving back to others who I have felt have been a positive impact on my life. Most recently I took a friend out to get her nails done for her bday as a token of appreciation for our friendship. I have always been more of a giver than a receiver and enjoy giving back to people or volunteering.

    1. That’s awesome Estrella, that’s a great way to express gratitude. I feel that I get more excited than the person whenever I give gifts lol. For appreciation, I like to personalize it by painting a mason jar and adding little notes of encouragement to it.

      1. That’s a great idea!! I know, same for me lol. Giving is the ultimate level of satisfaction. I love this quote from Rupi Kaur “give to those who have nothing to give to you”.
