Tonight I wanted to share with you a healthier alternative to dairy milk. These ingredients can be picked up at your local Sprouts, Central Market, Trader Joe’s, Market Street or Whole Foods store. The whole process of making this milk takes about 10-12 minutes and only requires four ingredients. So without further ado, let’s get started!
-1 Cup of Raw Organic Almonds (let these soak in water overnight)
-3 Medjool Dates (pitted or no pitted works
-1 Whole Chopped Vanilla Bean (It can be chopped into smaller pieces or left as is)
-3-4 Cups of filtered water
*Lastly, you will need a mesh strainer or nut bag to drain the milk
1.) Drain the almonds from the filtered water and add them to the blender with the 3 Medjool Dates
2.) Along with the almonds and dates add the whole vanilla bean with 3 1/2 cups of filtered water.
3.) Blend together on a high setting for 1-2 minutes (or until the milk looks nice & creamy)
4.) Place your mesh strainer over a glass jug or plastic bowl and slowly pour the milk through
5.) Store in the fridge for 3-5 days and shake well before use. (An inexpensive and easy way to store the milk is in a mason jar like I’ve done above&below). (They are $1 at Michael’s).
Well there you have it, now you have fresh, plant-based milk. In terms of milk this is as healthy as it gets. I love the taste it’s creamy and yummy. For additional flavor add a tablespoon of ground cinnamon or 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract (Imitation vanilla extract works as well). Throughout the upcoming weeks I will be sharing healthier recipes as well as substitutions for maintaining a healthier lifestyle.
